    This is a good set. not as good as Kato.This set works ok but some problems.... First, The couplings on the cars are strong but the defect is that it takes helping hands to connect the cars. I like to just be able to use the power of the engine and that is not at all easy to join cars that way with this set. Second, the power to the engine is picked up through the coal car and has a fragle looking connector to the engine. Third, the track and train has less detail than kato and dont like the electrical motor back of the engine seen out the back cab of the engine. The track gravel needs better detail like kato track. Forth, the track is a little hard to get together and not as easy as you would think. Finally, the enging and power pack do not work as smooth as kato at low speeds. Overall, this set has been working good and only time will tell about the long term quality. You can get the couplings to work with kato trains but is not easy to do and has to be done with hand. The engine, in the paperwork does need a very little hobby oil in some moving parts with toothpick every 8 hrs of operation along with wiping the track. Hope this has been helpful! 3Five StarsBought as a gift and he is happy with it! 5An acceptable train set.I consider this merely an adequate train set. I purchased it to get an idea of the size of N scale locomotives and rolling stock, and I was debating between building an HO or N scale layout, and I've always used HO in the past. For that purpose, this set certainly satisfied my yearning to size up N scale.The set comes packaged very neatly, and the power pack is quite clever compared with the HO sets I grew up with. It uses an external power pack "wall wart" that plugs into the throttle. While this would be useless for a layout, it is a great match for a portable train set like this, and it is important to keep in mind that this is a toy, really. The throttle unit has accessory connections, and plugs into a rerailer/power track via a flat connector. The connector is prone to coming loose without provocation. If you have power issues, check this connection. I've had this style of connector in the past on HO sets for Christmas tree use, and they exhibited similar issues, so this is not isolated to this set. The locomotive is a cute 0-6-0 locomotive, with reasonably good front and side detail. Despite the complaints of one reviewer as to the lack of wheels under the cab...an 0-6-0 should not have wheels there, and this is accurate to the prototype. The headlamp is not lighted. The motor sticks out the back of the cap, leaving an unsightly metal bulge. Really distracts from the otherwise decent realism. The tender is wired for power on the front wheel set, helping to avoid stalls. The locomotive runs reasonably well, and I was able to get it to climb mild inclines with all three cars and a few coins. Low speed operation is mixed...it doesn't start well, but it will run at low speed reasonably well if you decrease speed gradually. The cars consist of a boxcar (door does not open), gondola, and caboose. The detail on the cars is acceptable, other than the fixed boxcar door. The cars run a little noisy, although I suspect the EZ track might be partially to blame. It snapped together reasonably well, only one do-over was required. A circle is a little boring, so ideally they should update this to a slightly larger oval.In summary...a decent toy with a few minor flaws. Those flaws are excusable at this excellent price. 3Worthless garbageI ordered the first set for my grandson's birthday. Broken train, disappointed, sent it back. Ordered a new set. ALSO defective, train didn't work. Returning this set and not wasting my energy, time and grandson's emotions on this garbabe. Terribly disappointed. It really put a damper on his 10th birthday. My son in law also received a defective set. How can people make and sell such JUNK. Seriously. 1the price was perfect, it's Bachmann my train of choice so perfectWell need train number 2 for my layout, the price was perfect, it's Bachmann my train of choice so perfect, and will be my train 2 of my 3 trains I'm planning on. 5Good train set.I liked that it was small, but not did not like that it was hard to assemble! 4Son loved it!I ordered this as a Christmas and it was a big hit with my son. He loves trains and this is a great addition to his collection.Worked great. Would recommend to anyone that loves trains. 4Great for beginnersBachmann's ready-to-run starter train sets are an excellent way to discover if you really want to be a model railroader. The detail is very good even in N-scale. The locomotives are not the best on the market; however, Bachmann offers free replacement in the first year so you won't be burned if you get a lemon. The EZ Track works OK on carpet, but I would suggest mounting the track on plywood. Connecting and disconnecting the rail joiners repeatedly will damage them and that can interrupt the electric circuit. After mounting, tightly crimp the rail joiners with needle nose pliers or better yet, solder them. PLEASE NOTE: jerky performance of the locomotive is usually due to dirty track. It is easily cleaned with a pencil eraser. Also, the locomotive's motor bearing needs lubrication. Bachmann has several videos on YouTube showing you how. This is a fantastic hobby and a real treat for children. Though it is not intended for under 14 years old, I have supervised my young grand children for hundreds of joyous hours. 5Doesn t work.Doesn t work. Frustrating.
