Customer Reviews

Good review of grade 2 math to use with some assistance. This is a good review of grade 2 math. You need to use it with that in mind. The child who has not yet been exposed to these math subjects will need some help. There are between 2 and 4 questions on each concept, and the questions are nicely scaffolded. Just realize that if the child misses even one problem, be sure to go back and make sure they have that concept down before letting them move on. The books here seem to have good coverage of the expected topics in grade 2 math. If they are working somewhat independently, have your child use the pen with the sounds on so that you will hear whether they missed a question. Otherwise, they will just touch the other dots until they find the "right" dot which of course does not teach them anything. Bottom line, your child should use this set with some parental or teacher oversight. 5We cant get enough of these Hot Dots. Have ...We cant get enough of these Hot Dots. Have bought them for years and they offer challenging questions for every age. 5... the rubber grip of the pen was chewed up like a dog had gotten a hold of itWell first of all the rubber grip of the pen was chewed up like a dog had gotten a hold of it, along with small cuts in it. Then even though you could tell it was powered up, it did not light up at all. The product is already on its way back. 1Best thing you can do for your child to make learning FUN!!My child absolutely loves this. He's in second grade and gets bored with homework easily. When his homework one night was to review counting money and telling time, we pulled out his "hot dots" for the first time. I found the pages that had counting money and then the ones for practice in telling time. After demonstrating to him how this works, I left the rest up to him. I had to actually take it and put it away at bedtime. He did not want to stop. This makes learning so much fun. He said, "mom, I really like that. When you told me we were about to do that, I was like "oh brother!" I didn't want to do it. But I really like it mom. It's fun. A lot more fun than I thought it would be." So as a mom that insist on my child always doing his homework, and wanting him to learn and not dread having to study things; this is the best. He even ask me, "mom, where are my "hot dots"?" He wants to do this. I'm absolutely ecstatic about this. I would definitely recommend "Hot Dots". 5Limited UseEverything works just fine, but it didn't meet my personal hopes of being a regular tool that my child could use independently to solidify math skills. There are only 170 problems total and many of them are word problems that my child needed help reading and understanding what the question is about. All questions are multiple choice type format which also is limiting. Word problems are an issue because they take so much longer and our needs right now are to master math facts. If you are looking for a variety of math supplement activities, this could be an option, but it is not the one I would pick if you are looking for 1 or 2 long-lasting durable tools that can be used over and over. He likes the pen that cheers when you select the right answer, but that in itself was not really worth the money for me. If we use it, it is something that we're going to have to do together. 3Let's Master Grade 2 Math**I was sent a copy for free in exchange for my honest review. The Hot Dots Let's Master Grade 2 Reading set is fun for my kids to play with. In this set, you receive two spiral bound books and a Hot Dots pen. The Hot Dots pen allows the child to instantly know if the answer he chose is correct. If you are correct, the pen will light up green and say a congratulatory phrase. If you are wrong, it will light up red and say that you were wrong. There is a volume control on the pen, and it even allows you to turn the sound off. With the sound off, this makes a great quiet activity. The books are 50 pages each. The pages are durable. Included in the books are the following skills: place value, numbers, even numbers, odd numbers, patterns, math vocabulary, addition facts, subtraction facts, length, telling time, data and statistics, geometry, number sentences, algebra, addition, addition and subtraction, shapes, measuring time, counting money, and a number of challenge problems. I love that the skills are mixed up in the books and they are all color coded so if you want to focus on just one skill it is easy to find.Overall, I think this is a great set. It seems to be right on track for 2nd grade. My daughter is in first grade. While she can do some of the problems in these books, much of it is skills she has not learned yet. 5Hot Dots are fantastic! This set, like the one I purchased for reading, has a booklet that covers a lot of different skills in math. It also comes with the pen. I like how the pen can go on silent mode and use just the red and green light to show students if they are correct. These are great to use independently at a workshop station, so students can self check as they work through the booklet. My students love working with Hot Dots, and I have many boxes and booklets for them to use. I highly recommend them to teachers. 5Fun alternative to drill & kill.So I have to admit that getting the grade 2 Math box did not make my oldest as happy as the Preschooler who got the princess box. It is, after all, a school toy. No fooling her :).Inside a sturdy box was a Hot Dot pen and two spiral bound math books for Grade 2. You will need 2 AAA batteries for the pen; they aren't included. The books are sturdy for repeated use & feel like laminated cardstock. The books cover counting, place value, time, geometry, fractions, measurement, math facts, money, and algebra concepts. We have just begun second grade math and there were items that she had not yet covered but were in her math curriculum. I did like that there were vocabulary words we had not heard previously like expanded form. I also liked the challenge section at the end of book two which made the child think about using more than one step to solve problems.Because most of the books 100 problems are story problems, they should be a proficient reader. It's a great tool for assessing where a student is proficient or where they may need more practice. You do need to sit near because I the pen is not fully in the circle, it will not register properly. My 4 year old has an issue with this but my 6-3/4 year old only does when she's being sloppy or just wants to hear it talk and so picks every answer. If they need extra practice but drill & kill is making them nuts, this is a good alternative. Or if they like math & are adept at figuring things out on their own, try getting a set or two at a higher level and see what happens. Like the others, you can add any Hot Dot/Hot Dot Jr book or card set & the wand will work with them.I would highly recommend this Hot Dots set!Disclaimer: I received this item from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. 5Very easy and fun to use for kidsGreat learning toy! I am purchasing others for more subject. 5Love the conceptLove the concept, however, the pen broke within the first 3 days of use. My 7 yr old loved it so much, he worked through entire book. However, we noticed it stopped working when every answer he checked lite up as wrong, even when we know the answer is correct. So disappointed that the magnetic part is not longer working. 3
