Awesome set that makes tacky kid jewelry with meaning!! They LOVE it! Prefer over bead necklaces!!Our girls absolutely love this set and I have to admit..it is super cute in a cheap, very young-child way! The sky is the limit on customization, which added to the appeal for our little artsy ones! I prefer these a million times over the bead necklaces they love to do, for countless reasons. These lockets are basically a cheesy kid version of the Floating Locket Charm necklace that I have, which our girls love and have clamored for! I have extra charms for mine and they wanted to use a couple of them in their Lil Lockitz set. (It feels a little risky, since these lockets seem to open a bit easier than I would like...but, after all, they are my "reject" charms.)The set works by placing the back panel of the locket into a "sealer/crimperr" and then loading it up. They have included 4 backgrounds, many little decorations to add and of course, a cutting tool for trimming photos to fit perfectly in the locket. Our kids also used the selfie trimmer to cut their own pieces of background out of scrapbook paper we happened to have on hand, which they wanted to use in their necklaces. It worked perfectly!We decided to use a piece of background facing OUT in the back of the locket and a photo facing forward, with floating "charms" on top. This way, if the locket flips backward while they are wearing it, it still has something cute displayed.Bottom line...these lockets are clunky...flimsy and cheap looking....like most kid jewelry is. They love it! I ended up sticking a tiny sliver of paper along 2 little spots on the edge of the locket to help them stay closed better and I feel pretty comfortable with the "seal" it gave them.This kit makes 2 lockets and we will definitely look into other sets because they had a blast! 5Too expensive for whats includedNeat product but for what you pay you only get 2 lockets 3Lil Lockitz Selfie SetThis clever jewelry making set allows children to add a picture, stickers and other decorative bits to a locker. Besides the materials for assembling the locket, this set contains a template cropper that will cut your photo to the shape of the locket. It also contains a "crimper" that seals and reopens the locket. There are a number of Lit Lockitz sets with different themes. This "Selfie" set is meant for a picture of the owner with design to say something about her personality presumably. It is nice that there are many sets and themes but it would also be good if you could get "refill" packs so you could re-use the template cropper and crimper. Otherwise this is a quick, nearly mess free project for children and parents to do together or for older children to do on their own. 5Fun Kit for Selfie LoversThis is a kit that makes 2 cute little lockets for necklaces. They are really easy for kids to do and don't require much, if any, adult assistance. Everything needed is in the kit. There is a tool that then snaps everything in place into a colorful plastic ring. 2 Lockets, 2 Necklaces, 8 Charms, 6 Gems, 4 Backgrounds, Sequin Letters, Photo Puncher and Stencil, Crimper and Instructions. It's recommended for ages 5 to 15. Five year olds can certainly manage doing this craft without frustration. I'm not sure a lot of people older than 10 would be interested in wearing the jewelry because the design is kind of geared to a younger crowd, but I'm sure they'd have fun putting it together. 5Overall a blast for my daughter but looks like what it is, kid's jewelry.My daughter was excited when she saw this Selfie Set and the fact that it came with two lockets. She decided to make one for herself and one for her best friend. The set it easy to use; to be honest, the most difficult part for her was deciding which photo to use in the lockets.Once you have your photos picked out, the photo punch will cut them exactly to fit into the lockets. We will be using the photo punch for other crafts as well so it will go in our craft bins since we have completed the lockets.The only complaint that we had was that there were only two lockets and we could only make two for $20 which made them expensive lockets. We figured that the cost was mostly due to the photo punch they included.The lockets work like the other Alex Lil Lockitz sets that we have used. You put your background inside, add the photo then any charms you want to use, place the top on it and then use the crimping tool that is included to close the locket. The lockets do not always stay closed, it will depend on how rough your little one is that plays with them. In addition, the plastic does look like cheap kids jewelry but as long as your kiddos do not mind then its fine. 4So Much Fun Creating Friendship Necklaces!So much fun creating friendship necklaces!The Lil Lokitz Selfie Set Kit comes with 2 necklace charms, two string necklaces (with clasps that easily comes undone to prevent choking), one stencil to cut a picture or drawing or decorative paper to size, and a variety of glittery/sparkly options to fill the charm. The first thing that came to mind when I saw my granddaughter and her friend creating these adorable necklaces was how similar they are to the very popular adult version of Origami Owl jewelry. The charms can be filled with a variety of different sparkly, shimmery charms and then the necklace back is pushed on (using enclosed crimper) so the children can wear it. The kit comes with a large variety of options so there was plenty of things for each child to do and fill her locket. You can easily remove the back and update the locket at any point. The girls had so much fun picking different shapes and designs for their lockets and then wearing them around. Our granddaughter has not taken hers off for the past few days. I gave it 4 stars because the back stays on when you are wearing it but it does not stay firmly closed. Her brother easily popped it open when he was looking at it, and the pieces fell out and went everywhere. If the back screwed on or had a tighter seal I think it might be a little better. Basically any child could pop it open if they pull on the tab. Overall though the lockets are cute, fun and bright. It s a cute set and your child can make a very personal necklace to wear and show-off.The set includes 2 lockets, 2 necklaces, 8 charms, 6 Gems, 4 Backgrounds, Sequin Letters, Photo Puncher and Stencil, Crimper and Instructions on how to make the lockets. The set is recommended for 5+, but the stuff is very small so if your child is a bitty and tends to put things in their mouth I would avoid this. I would use discretion - if they are good with crafts, go for it. Mine loves doing stuff like this, so she whipped out two lockets in a five minutes and called it a day.This makes for a great activity for 2 kiddos to make matching lockets. Wish there were more. 4Fun and Productive Bonding TimeI got this set to do as a craft project with my 2 1/2 year old and 3 1/2 year old as they are at that age when they are becoming fascinated with jewelry but I don't want them touching mine. Not only does this allow us to make their own jewelry together as a craft project but it gives them their own jewelry to play with so they aren't as tempted by my jewerly box.The kit comes with the materials to make 2 necklaces, which come apart very easily so there is no choking hazard. It also has a picture punch so you can print out a picture of your child to use as the background of the necklace. There are also little decorations to add to the necklace's charm.The girls loved helping make their own necklaces and picking out what they wanted to add. They had a blast. The only thing I don't like about these is that they come apart so easily. It's supposed to be so you can redo the charm whenever you want but I'd rather just buy more for them to do so we superglue these shut to prevent any mishaps. I also wish it came with more than just 2 pieces of jewerly to make. We have a Lil Lockitz kit that makes 18 pieces and you can do the exact same things so I recommend that one over this one if you only plan on buying one set.Overall this is an adorable craft project and the girls loved it. It isn't for older kids as tweens and teens likely wouldn't wear the bulky plastic charms. For younger kids, however, it really is a blast. They just need to be supervised and helped so make it a family craft activity for some fun bonding time. 4
